Tony Bennett's "Snowfall" -- This was originally released originally in 1968, and was re-released in 1994 with new cover art (photo to the left is the original artwork) and a bonus track of "I'll Be Home for Christmas". It was reissued a third time in 2007 with different cover art along with a bonus DVD with video clips from his Holiday Special from 1992 -- Tony Bennett: A Family ChristmasYou can find this on Amazon for as low as $2 (used) or about $5 (new).

Perry Como is pretty underrated when it comes to the crooners of the 1950s when compared to someone like Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin. I love all of his Christmas albums, but this one, in particular, has all classic Christmas songs (so the title "The Classic Christmas Album" is appropriate). And it's only $5! Tony Bennett also has a Christmas album called "The Classic Christmas Album" and it's fantastic (and $5) as well.

The Carpenters are pretty much my favorite duo from the 1970s and probably of all time. No one, in my opinion, can come close to being able to arrange a song the way Richard Carpenter can, and no one will ever top Karen's contralto vocals. This is a hill I'm willing to die on.
Their "Christmas Portrait" is in heavy rotation this time of year, and "Merry Christmas, Darling" is one of the best Christmas pop songs EVER.
I know... I just said that Perry Como is underrated, and compared him to Dean Martin, the King of Cool, but this one is a classic. I love "A Marshmallow World", "Winter Wonderland". This album was even re-released under a different title "A Very Cool Christmas" in 2008.
His son, Ricci Martin, mentions in his book "That's Amore" that it was actually played in the Martin household -- also, check out his daughter's book as well, "Memories Are Made of This" by Deana Martin. This is available for $5 on Amazon.
Switching it up a bit with this Scotsman, Mr. Rod Stewart. I. Love. Him! His raspiness makes this Christmas album go easily into my top 5 Christmas albums. "Merry Christmas, Baby" ($10 on Amazon) is a classic Christmas pop song, and when I saw that he covers it -- and it's not just the title of the album -- I almost knew exactly how it would sound. It features CeeLo Green, and the traditional song "We Three Kings" features Mary J. Blige. There is also an original titled "Red Suited Super Man" which features Trombone Shorty.
Just throwing this out there, I'm also a huge fan of his American Songbook CDs.

Moving on to some divas -- Christina Aguilera. Christina is my girl (side note: I am SO HAPPY that Latina Aguilera is back!) I remember jamming out to this CD on my way to and from school during the holidays. I loved that she did "Angels We Have Heard On High" which isn't a song that pop artists typically cover. Also, "This Year" is severely underrated if you ask me. If you were a pre-teen or teenager in the early 2000s like me, this album, "My Kind of Christmas" needs to belong in your collection -- and it will only cost you about $8 on Amazon!

We can't talk divas without talking about Whitney Houston. I can't begin to explain how happy I have that she made a Christmas album. I knew the vocal arrangements would be amazing! Her vocals on "The First Noël" make it my favorite track. I only wish that she was still with us to make another one cause this one is an absolute masterpiece. I also wish that she would have released a full Gospel album, but I think the soundtrack of "The Preacher's Wife" is as close as we will get.

Kelly Clarkson's first Christmas album "Wrapped in Red" is another that is easily in my Top 5. The original songs like the titles track, and "Underneath the Tree" are refreshing and fun. I always think of the "sign scene" from "Love, Actually" when I hear "Wrapped in Red" and I saw in an interview that that was the inspiration behind the song. The song "4 Carats" gives me "Santa, Baby" vibes, and "Winter Dreams" is a vocal dream -- and fun to sing along with.
Did you really think that I would write a post about not only Christmas albums, but include divas in the list without mentioning Mariah Carey? Oh no... just once in my life, I'd looooove to see the royalty check she gets just for "All I Want for Christmas Is You" cause it seems like everyone and their mom has covered that song. It's a pop classic and Mariah is pop royalty. For only $7 you can own your physical copy of Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas" on Amazon!
