Going Hypoallergenic

Image
In a previous video on my  YouTube Channel  (VLOGmas Day 1: ELF Cosmetics Haul) I mentioned that I am going as hypoallergenic as I possibly can -- and you may be wondering why. Well, a really long story short, I had a MAJOR reaction to... something. Isn't that vague? I'll get into the possibilities a little further into the post. ☕Buy Me a Coffee [help support the channel & blog] https://www.buymeacoffee.com/OMGitsWhitney It all started mid-November around the 13th or 14th. The base of my scalp was itching pretty bad.  Now... I wasn't thinking I had contracted lice or something like that. While I do work in a Pharmacy, I have very little interaction with the patients, so while it could have been a possibility, there weren't any recent cases of lice coming through the Pharmacy, so there's that out of the way. However...sometimes if I skip washing my hair for a couple of days -- you know, how the beauty gurus say you're "supposed to"  -- my h...

What Your Local Pharmacy Staff Wishes You Knew

Image
I don't really know how to start this blog so I'm just going to pick a spot and keep on going. This blog post started going in my head when I heard the story of a patient taking a gun and shooting a pharmacist and a technician. I've seen articles and comments under the story about how it's an everyday occurrence in some pharmacies, and unfortunately, it's true. I've been a CPhT  for nine years. I got my start as a Pharmacy Tech Trainee at Walgreens back in the Hill Country. (I could make a whole other blog post about my experience working for Walgreens but I'll just be giving you the "Greatest Hits" in this entry.) From there I transferred to a Walgreens out here in West Texas when I moved in June of 2010. After moving, I took my PTCE and passed at the first go-around. I was a trainee for only less than a year and was certified by the end of 2010.  I remember going in as a trainee on my first day and thinking "This is it... this is going to...

Say, What's In This Drink?

This whole uproar about the lyrics to Baby, It's Cold Outside is getting out of hand... IT'S JUST A SONG... I need to get some feelings out, so if you're here for the ride, hold on. Some radio stations are refusing to play "Baby, It's Cold Outside" due to it's "sexual -- date-rapey undertone in the wake of the whole #MeToo movement". Now if you haven't heard the song before -- cause you hide when Christmas music starts playing in stores -- click here to hear the song. DISCLAIMER: I have no problem with this song, or "Santa, Baby"... my problem is with the hypocrisy. "Say, what's in this drink?" -- seriously that is the only line in there that gives them any backing to their claim that it's date/rapey. However, she says "at least I'm gonna say that I tried," & "at least there will be plenty implied" which means she's consenting to stay with him, (it doesn't mean anyt...

What I Wrote For My TSI Essay

Image
So I went and took my TSI placement test for college today. To my knowledge I was only being tested on Reading, Writing and Math... well. After the Writing portion I was anticipating the Math section to be next. Instead I see a paragraph about how "we're taught that it's good to get along and fit in" and then it was followed by (in layman's terms): " Is it more valuable for people to fit in than to be unique and different?  Write an essay (300-600 words)" Great. Luckily I have strong opinions on this so it was easy. I just treated it like a blog post (but as if Mrs. Engler was going to be grading it) and started typing away. I might not get everything down as I wrote it exactly... but I will do my best to recreate my TSI Essay for 2018. ~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~* ~*~*~* It wasn't until this past year that I realized that there are going to be people that aren't going to like me. On the other hand,...

Right to Disconnect? For Real?!

I never thought I would say this, but New York may have something that could start a trend here in the states...something that has already happened in other countries... and I'm kind of excited about it.  I'm talking about the Right to Disconnect Law proposal.  63% of Americans check their phones every hour, 9% check  every 5 minutes . Some of this could be because we are so obsessed with social media, and staying in touch with family, friends, various public figures/celebrities... but another part of it is work-a-holics not knowing how to stop their work day.  The idea behind "Right to Disconnect" is to ban employers sending emails/texts/calls to employees after hours and/or if an employer sends an email to an employee after hours , the employee will not going to be required to answer. In some corporations, employers would hold that over an employee and reprimand them if they don't respond. If an employee is constantly consumed with working, f...

Being a Christian With Depression (A Repost)

Image
I originally posted this on my personal blog, which has now been set to private, but I felt like sharing it after Stephanie McQueen's YouTube Video went up. I originally posted this shortly after Robin Williams was found dead by suicide. Being a Christian & Having Depression... (Originally Posted on August 12, 2014) Being a Christian gal who has depression in the family, and has battled it occasionally throughout life, I know that it can suck. It is one that doesn't care who it creeps in on... and it can sometimes be merciless. I can also tell you that with the right professional help (and sometimes along with medication) depression can be treated to a level that getting out of bed isn't a difficult thing, or even help get you through an entire day without breaking down into tears. The thing I don't understand about depression, other than why she is such a bitch, is the stigma that comes along with it within the Christian community. I had a few people...

One Year to An Organized Life

Image
I've never been an extremely organized person in the past (just ask my mother) but I do get these bursts of energy where I feel like cleaning something and organizing it. Usually this room is the bathroom...call me crazy, but that seems like the ONE room that stuff needs to be clean and sanitized as often as possible. As much as I clean and re-organize the bathroom (and occasionally the kitchen), about 60% of the time it doesn't stay that way.  I know my organizational habits (or lack there of) drive my husband insane... but I think all of that is about to change. While browsing in Barnes and Noble this weekend, I stumbled on a book that I think I've needed for...like my whole life. The cover of it was a pretty blue, with six rubber ducks all lined up. My mind went to "having your ducks all in a row" and saw the word "organized" and I was compelled to pick it up. As soon as I skimmed through the pages I knew I needed this. It's marked b...
