Our Monkey's First Birthday

Image
**Affiliate Links Below** So, obviously we don't have a pet monkey. That's just the nickname we gave our daughter -- and how she is referred to online outside of our circle of friends and family. She recently turned ONE and I thought I would share a little bit from her little party -- it consisted of my husband Aaron, myself, and Aaron's parents. The Monkey loves  Cocomelon  and I really wanted to throw her a Cocomelon themed party but there aren't many decorations that are specific to Cocomelon -- the only thing I really saw was a cake topper  (of course as I look online, now there are more decorations -- insert eye roll here). So I decided to go with this: It was still "melon" themed and it was just cute. I was going to try to make her a cake that looked like a watermelon like in the photo -- but I've never made that high tier of a cake before and I wanted it to be perfect. I'm no baker...I'm a box cake queen though. My mother-in-law ...

2010: Why I Was Scared of the Police

Image
Let me start this blog entry with a few disclaimers: I am in no way  implying that my situation, as a white woman, calls for more validity than what a person of color may have experienced if this had happened to them. My story doesn't have so much to do with my race as much as it had to do with the fact that I was a young female and I was alone. Not all cops are racist or sexist (or on a power trip in general), but those that are needed to be held accountable when they behave based on those prejudices and disciplined accordingly. ☕Buy Me a Coffee [help support the channel & blog] https://www.buymeacoffee.com/OMGitsWhitney 2010: Before I get started, I would like to point out that I know I accelerated before I saw the 70mph sign, and a speeding ticket was warranted, but the rest of it was not, and that's where my story starts.  I was going through a small town that I have gone through a million times. The speed limit drops from 70mph to 55mph, all the way down...

Ancestry Search = Dual Citizenship?

Image
Something that I have always thought was cool was to have dual citizenship. One of my best friends was born in Germany and because her father was American, and her mother is German -- and she was born there -- she is able to obtain citizenship in both Germany and the U.S. I wasn't jealous, but I wanted that so bad. I don't know why. Maybe for bragging rights? I don't know, I was only a kid. When I met my husband, I found out his mother is from Finland. She moved to the U.S in the 1980s when she met his dad. I didn't know Finland's laws when it came to becoming a citizen in another country, but he told me he has E.U citizenship via Finland because of his mom. I just think it's cool. I had asked about gaining citizenship through him as a spouse, but I would have to learn Suomi (Finnish) and live in Finland for five years -- not something we could really do right now, and have you seen Finnish? It's complicated! Something about me: I'm obsessed...lik...

What's in My Hospital Bag?!

**This blog post contains affiliate links. You aren't obligated to click them, but if you do, it gets me a little something-something.** During our hospital stay for having our baby, I wanted to be a minimalist when it came to packing our hospital bag. My plan was to pack only what I need to get through the three-ish days that I will be in the hospital before taking the 5-minute drive up the street to our house to take our little one home. Upon looking at list suggestions of what to pack, since I am a first-time mom, nearly every list I saw online had things that seemed pointless to me... items like makeup made my eyebrows raise. For real? Girl, you just pushed a human out of your body... do you really have to look Instagram ready while you're recovering in your oversized underwear with a pad as big as a mattress? I didn't think so. Speaking of those, I plan on purchasing these bad boys  (click to see) to wear for the 4-6 weeks following the delivery date. The Obvious ...

Managing Weight & Preventing Stretch Marks

Image
**Some links in this blog are affiliate links -- just so you know.** If you read the  "How I Found Out I Was Pregnant" story, or seen the  YouTube video that goes along with it , you'll know that I found out because I broke out in hives. Part of my treatment was an extremely aggressive course of steroids. I started at 60mg (20mg three times a day) and after nearly three months, was finally off of them. One of the side effects of steroids is it makes you really really hungry. Before my hives, I was already slightly overweight, weighing between 155-160lbs . When I started the steroids, I gained about 10-12lbs in my first trimester in about two months. Of course, my doctor was concerned and didn't want me to gain much more weight for the rest of my pregnancy. I didn't blame him... at the rate I was going, I would be over 200lbs at the time of delivery. I am only 5'6" with a broken toe , and I really didn't want that to happen. He told me to keep it b...

My Review of Frontline's Oral Defense Daily Chewy

Image
**Let me start this review by saying that I received these chews complimentary of Chewy and Influenster .** I was pretty excited about this VoxBox being for my dogs. Zane (our corgi/border collie mix) has some heinous breath and a little plaque buildup on his teeth. He does get his teeth brushed when we take him and Sully (our shepherd/husky mix) to the groomers every 3 months, but that's about it. This VoxBox from Influenster and Chewy was the Frontline Oral Defense Daily Chews.  We have two dogs. I gave both dogs chews but primarily gave them to Zane so I had more data to go on -- four days wouldn't have been enough for me to tell a difference or make an educated analysis of how well this product works.  Zane patiently waiting for his daily treat. First thing I noticed about these treats is they smell WONDERFUL for them being a dog treat. It almost smells like a vanilla frosting. Zane is a peculiar dog. He likes treats, but most of the time he will just pick at it, ...

Tacos & Tutus: My Friends Threw the BEST Baby Shower

Image
I had my baby shower today! It was so. much. fun! For real. I have the best friends in the whole world. ☕Buy Me a Coffee [help support the channel & blog] https://www.buymeacoffee.com/OMGitsWhitney Stephanie, Myself, & Kendra. Stephanie and I have been friends since we were babies -- our moms were friends and pregnant at the same time. We are 8 days apart...9 when it's a leap year. We met Kendra in Kindergarten when we were in Daisies together. We all went to school together and stayed close after graduating.  We all got together back in March to plan the Baby Shower. I knew that I didn't want pink -- even though we knew it was a girl, pink is pretty but predictable -- I thought purples would be more my style, plus it's one of my favorite colors. Stephanie had a list of potential themes. I honestly had no idea what themes to even consider. We ended up going with "Tacos and Tutus" -- I mean, this is Texas. Tex-Mex is a staple in this state.    ...
